Join the Leadership and Management section and the European Negotiation Hub of the Amsterdam Business School at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) for a fully-funded PhD position to conduct impactful negotiation research, together with internationally renowned experts. We are seeking an ambitious and enthusiastic PhD candidate to join us in February 2025.
You’ll study how individual differences of negotiators affect their behavioral choices in negotiation, with a particular focus on (un)ethical behaviours and their downstream effects on economic and subjective outcomes of negotiations. You will utilize quantitative research methods (e.g., experiments and statistical discourse analysis) to study this dynamic relationship and develop strategies to navigate negotiations with difficult personality profiles.

Responsibilities:
WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO
Your role involves collaborating on research, recruiting participants, collecting data, conducting in-depth data analysis, and sharing your research findings with both colleagues and the public. You’ll present your discoveries at workshops and conferences, and participate in collaborative symposia. Your contributions will be published in prestigious journals, shaping discussions in our field. Additionally, you’ll contribute to teaching at the Amsterdam Business School, enhancing the academic environment.
TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- develop innovative research ideas;
- conduct research (including the design of the studies, and the collection and analysis of empirical data);
- write up findings for publication in prestigious academic (psychology and management) journals;
- present research findings at leading international conferences;
- attend courses and seminars to develop research skills;
- participate in and contribute to research activities within the section (e.g., research seminars);contribute to teaching activities of the section (e.g., conduct tutorials) and supervise thesis students (20 percent of the task).
You will be working as PhD candidate for 38 hours per week
Your advisory team will include Associate Professor Alfred Zerres and Professor Frank Belschak (promotors). You’ll be an integral part of The Leadership and Management section, renowned for its supportive yet ambitious culture that fosters personal growth in an exciting international setting. Our mission? To excel in research and deliver top-tier education across our Bachelor, Master, and executive programs. You will also be embedded in the European Negotiation Hub (ENHub), an international competence center for negotiation research and practice at the University of Amsterdam. ENHub connects international negotiation academics and the professional negotiation community to create and share negotiation insights that have impact.
