Description:
Institute of Geography, University of Bern
Starting date: 1.11.2024 or later for 3 years (max. 4 years)
The Climatology group of the Institute of Geography and Oeschger Centre, University of Bern, led by Prof. Stefan Brönnimann announces an open PhD position in weather extremes and health in the framework of a Horizon Europe project on climate change adaptation in Europe.
Tasks
The goal of the PhD project is to provide and analyse a number of health-relevant heat indicators at high spatial resolution for Europe for the past, present and future that can then be combined with other geospatial information as well as with other hazards (e.g., air pollution) to address compound risks. The analysis will also address climatic drivers in combination with a large ensemble of climate model simulations. In addition, the project will zoom in to the city level for four case study sites (Naples, Lyon, Bern, Oslo) and address urban heat island effects.
Requirements
The successful candidate has an MSc degree in climate science, environmental science, applied mathematics, statistics, or similar.
We strongly encourage women and under-represented minorities to apply. Offers are contingent upon eligibility for and successfully obtaining the correct visa status. For more information about University of Bern employment, visit www.karriere.unibe.ch.
