The Center for Experimental Neurology (ZEN) is a unique translational research center in the Department of Neurology at the Inselspital University Hospital Bern, Switzerland. The ZEN fosters strong collaborations between clinical and experimental laboratories with long-standing expertise in sleep, epilepsy and stroke.
To further strengthen our group, we are seeking for a motivated PhD candidate to integrate our translational research program. The research project aims at identifying novel cellular and EEG biomarkers of sleep and sleep perturbations in patients with insomnia. Our long-term goal is to provide new features to accelerate drug development through AI-based predictive algorithms.
Tasks
The Center for Experimental Neurology (ZEN) is a unique translational research center in the Department of Neurology at the Inselspital University Hospital Bern, Switzerland. The ZEN fosters strong collaborations between clinical and experimental laboratories with long-standing expertise in sleep, epilepsy and stroke.
The successful candidates will characterize the EEG signals and cellular activities in response to different available drugs in the market to treat insomnia using state-of-the-art techniques including in vivo electrophysiology, imaging technologies and behavioral phenotyping
Your profile
- Master in neurobiology, neurophysiology, biology, or MD degree
- Strong interest in system neuroscience and neuro-engineering
- A strong motivation and interest in collaborating with a multidisciplinary team
- Solid communications skills in English
Experimental:
- Experience with in-vivo microsurgeries, sleep recording, optogenetics, animal behavioral tests
- Accreditation of the Animal training course (LTK1 or equivalent)
Computational:
- Computer programming (Matlab, Python, C++, etc.) are an asset.
