Alpha1-antitrypsin deficiency (AATD) is a genetic disorder characterized by mutations in the alpha1-antitrypsin (AAT) gene that predominantly affects lung and liver. Individuals with severe AATD mutations, such as the PiZZ genotype, face increased risks of liver cirrhosis and lung emphysema. Over the past 10 years, our group has collated a worldwide unique and well characterised human tissue samples.
