Responsibilities:
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Identifying opportunities to promote SAHMRI to prospective donors in the community through talks, events, personal contact, meetings and visits to the institute
- Developing effective, tailored strategies to identify, research, engage and convert each prospective donor
- Managing and building relationships with local groups and activities that have a clear relevance to SAHMRI
- Driving engagement strategies and nurturing relationships with long-term, existing significant supporters, including Founding Ambassadors, to increase the value and length of their support in partnership with the executive, senior researchers and members of the Public Engagement and Philanthropy sub-committee
- Liaising with the Head of Fundraising and Marketing to develop events and activities for each cohort of donors, including private tours, meetings and presentations for current and prospective donors
- Providing timely, personalised communications and appropriate recognition to donors as agreed
- Liaising with the Research Office to increase revenue from a sustainable portfolio of philanthropic grants that require building and maintaining close relationships with private and corporate trusts and foundations
- Working collaboratively with the Fundraising and Marketing team and Media and Communications team to develop strategic pitches and collateral for prospective donors, foundations and other partners
- Ensuring that donors and foundations are informed, updated and involved with appropriate events, functions and activities at SAHMRI in a personalised and strategic manner
- Mining the database to identify mid-level donors and implementing engagement plans to migrate them to a greater level or frequency of giving
- Actively managing the portfolio of prospective and current supporters by recording all activities, tasks, contact details, contracts, grants, acquittals and notes in the fundraising database
- Responding dynamically to special calls, announcements of interest and other opportunities to advance SAHMRl’s position with key stakeholders and the community
- Developing relationships with researchers to acquire a comprehensive knowledge of SAHMRI research and potential funding needs
- Preparing reports and evaluating strategies in partnership with the Head of Philanthropy and Engagement
- Ensuring that fundraising activities are legally compliant and in line with SAHMRI’s Fundraising Policy
- Participating in special projects to continuously improve processes, tools, methods and organisation
- Taking reasonable care to protect own health, safety and welfare at work and avoid affecting the health and safety of any other person at work
- Participating in implementing the Institute’s Work, Health and Safety Management System and related laws, regulations and guidelines
- Performing duties in keeping with SAHMRI’s Vision, Mission and Values and Code of Conduct Policy
- Performing other duties as directed by the Head of Philanthropy and Engagement
In addition to the above, to be successful in this role you will have/be:
- Minimum five years’ experience in a fundraising role
- Demonstrated capacity to lead design, implement and evaluate a strategic plan for philanthropy and engagement
- Proven track record of securing significant philanthropic gifts from individuals and organisations in a not-for-profit setting
- Excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills with the ability to form strong relationships with a diverse range of people
- Professional presentation
- Ability to lead and manage projects independently and in teams to meet demanding timelines and expectations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience recording fundraising activity in a relevant database
- Possess the ability to identify philanthropic opportunities and develop them into potential support
- Excellent attention to detail and an understanding of the importance of engaging and recognising supporters in an appropriate manner
- Reliable, responsible and energetic
- Current Australian Driver’s Licenc
