Virginia Western Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education operating under the Virginia Community College System, a statewide system of community colleges. The College operates under the policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Virginia Western Community College Local Advisory Board.
Virginia Western is located on a 70-acre campus in southwest Roanoke, VA. The service region of the College includes Roanoke, Salem, Roanoke County, Craig County, Franklin County, and southern Botetourt County. The College was established in 1966 and has grown from an initial enrollment of 1,352 to its current annual enrollment of over 9,000 students in credit courses and more than 1,400
enrollments in fast-track workforce and continuing education courses.
Virginia Western Community College is accepting applications for a full-time, restricted Philanthropy Relations Officer. The Philanthropy Relations Officer serves the Foundation in engaging, cultivating, and stewarding donors and internal and external stakeholders. Reporting to and under the direction of the Coordinator of Philanthropy, the Officer will support and execute fundraising and development strategies that may include the following: annual campaign activities and active campaign solicitations, scholarship establishment and management, fundraising events, foundation grants development and management (as applicable, and in collaboration with the Grants Office), community and public relations, and alumni relations.
This is a restricted position funded by VWCC Educational Foundation funds.
Minimum Qualifications:
Demonstrated exceptional interpersonal skills, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills to effectively communicate and interact with college peers, donors, community members and area businesses. Ability to work with accuracy, while balancing a multitude of tasks. Knowledge of fundraising and/or sales principles and procedures. Organized, detail oriented, and comfortable conducting solicitations and executing fundraising communications/strategy. This position may be asked to work evening or weekend hours; travel to meetings and events may also be required. Must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel, PowerPoint with the ability to develop professional correspondence.Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of Client Relationship Management (CRM) or donor database management systems, presentation and website management software desired.
