Description:

The Faculty of Philosophy is seeking to appoint a Head of Administration and Finance to join a thriving faculty. This senior administrative role presents an exciting opportunity to be responsible for the effective and efficient day-to-day non-academic management and administration of the Philosophy Faculty. Working in close collaboration with the Faculty Board Chair and other senior academic and professional services staff in the University, the Head of Administration and Finance plays a key role in the Faculty’s strategic and operational planning. This post is fixed term up to 31 October 2026.
The successful candidate will advise and collaborate with the Chair of the Faculty Board (Head of Department) and other senior Academic Officers on operational and strategic issues, offering solutions and implementing subsequent decisions. They will also collaborate with colleagues in the Divisional Offices and the University’s central administration.
This is a complex and challenging position requiring significant experience of financial and personnel management, in addition to strengths in governance, relationship management, written and oral communication skills, and a firm understanding of academic and research administration.
In addition to a good honours degree, or equivalent, and evidence of strong intellectual capability, the successful candidate will have extensive experience of working at management level in university administration; considerable experience of personnel management involving a diverse workforce; experience of committee servicing; excellent analytical and organisational skills, with a proven ability to handle and prioritise a complex portfolio of responsibilities in a challenging and fast-moving environment; and excellent skills in written and oral communication.
