Phlebotomist 2 - Variable Day Shift

The Phlebotomist 2 draws and collects blood samples from patients, verifies records and prepares specimens for laboratory analysis. Performs all pre-analytical functions. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Relies on establish guidelines to accomplish tasks. Develops a complete understanding of specimen collection and handling in order to preserve specimen validity and integrity Must have excellent customer service skills and frequently works independently outside the main lab. • Specimens are received and accepted into the Lab Information System using proper patient identification at all times.
• Laboratory centrifuge for specimen processing is operated in accordance to specified guidelines at all times.
• Clinical specimen and order processing functions are performed within specified guidelines at all times.
• Procedures for the aseptic collection of samples for blood culture are followed with less than 3% contamination rate.
• Phlebotomy areas are maintained in a sanitary and properly supplied condition at all times.
• Positive patient identification and specimen labeling is followed at all times with less than 2 incidents a year.
• All specimen collection devices and techniques are properly utilized at all times as evidenced by less than 2 incidents per year.

• 1 year Phlebotomy Experience
• High School diploma or equivalent

• Good interpersonal/human relations skills; Good oral/written communication skills; Good teamwork skills; Good critical thinking/decision making skills; Good organizational skills
• Phlebotomy, MLA, or MA certification or license obtained within three (3) months of employment; Certified Phlebotomist or obtain a La. Medical Laboratory Assistant license
