Description:

Due to the expansion of our busy service we are looking for a dynamic individuals with excellent communication skills to join our Phlebotomy Service. You will work within a dedicated team who provide front line care to hospital inpatients, outpatients & GP patients.
You will need to be flexible in your approach to working as the Phlebotomy service is provided 7 days a week operated on a rota basis. You must be willing to work weekends and bank holidays. Excellent communication and organisational skills are integral to the post. You’ll need to adapt quickly to a fast-paced environment while delivering consistent, top-quality service.
Experience working with patients and staff in a hospital or blood test clinic setting will be an advantage.
You’ll play a key role in facilitating clear and effective communication between laboratory staff, clinical teams, and external clients. Whether offering advice, clarifying test requests, or addressing queries, you’ll do so in a professional and approachable manner. Strong IT skills will also be essential for communicating via various digital platforms.
In addition, you’ll manage stock levels by ordering supplies from Main Stores and rotating inventory to ensure efficient use of resources.

Responsibilities:

Participates in staff rotas as required & supports the Phlebotomy Supervisor to ensure that adequate staff levels are available to provide the inpatient & outpatient service
Work on a one-to-one basis with patients and without direct supervision following competency assessment by the Phlebotomy Supervisor/Manager.
Performs venepuncture following correct procedures
Positively checks patient identification by verbal communication & scanning of IP wrist bands
Accurate & Legible labelling of samples
Make enquiries relating to Phlebotomy requests through the appropriate channels:
Has a good understanding of the nature and purpose of the routine and specialist biomedical investigations/interventions required.
Understands any particular factors that may affect the selection of an appropriate venepuncture site.
Able to perform venepuncture on sites other than the sub cubital foss
