• Interact with all laboratory customers with courtesy and professionalism; respond promptly to telephone inquiries.
• Follow proper patient identification procedures for blood specimen collection via venipuncture, heel stick, or fingerstick; instruct patients on self-collection procedures if needed.
• Demonstrate dependability, reliability, and independent judgment, recognizing priorities and accepting appropriate authority to meet department needs.
• Perform specimen collection at off-site locations as required; transport specimens from collection areas to the laboratory following safety procedures.
• Adhere to laboratory and hospital policies on procedures, methods, quality control, quality assurance, safety, hand hygiene, isolation precautions, compliance, and personnel policies.
• Perform related clerical duties, utilize computer functions for accurate data entry, manage test orders, and ensure correct patient and sample information.
• Train and orient new employees, students, and residents as assigned; inform technical staff, supervisory personnel, and pathologists of unusual or problematic incidents.
• Monitor and maintain supplies for assigned functions; use materials and reagents cost-effectively.
