Summary of Responsibilities
At Urenco USA, the Mechanical Engineer performs basic analysis and designs in support of the facility, programs, and projects. Works closely with more senior experienced Engineers to gather the needed technical knowledge and experience. Completes conceptual and basic design of piping systems (calculations, drawings, and specifications) such as Air Compressors (Atlas Copco screw type GA/GR) with air dryers, HVAC, 500 ton air-cooled screw chillers, RO/DI water purification systems, piped nitrogen, effluent ventilation, and water pumping systems up to 50hp for new buildings and facilities at Urenco USA. Works closely with Principal Mechanical Engineers and supervision for reliance on how to overcome challenges and achieve deadlines.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: ABET accredited Bachelor’s of Science Chemical or Mechanical Engineering degree
  • Experience- 1-5 years of engineering experience with designing ASME piped systems

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education: ABET accredited Bachelor’s of Science Chemical or Mechanical Engineering degree
  • Experience: 5- 7 years of related work experience, and experience working with engineering experience with designing ASME B31.3 and BPVC Section VIII piped systems

Essential Skills:

  • Knowledge of the practical application of Mechanical Engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production new buildings and facilities.
  • The ability to work in a highly procedurally environment
  • Knowledge and prediction of physical principles, laws, their interrelationships, and applications to understanding Mechanical Engineering.
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
  • The ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense
  • The ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events).
  • Knowledge in Microsoft Office, Documentum, Mechanical Engineering software for aiding in calculations and drawings.

Job Details

  • Work Location: DFW Work From Home
  • Work Schedule: Professional work schedule
  • Travel Required: Approx 30% travel to Eunice, NM and possibly 1 trip/year to Europe
  • Security Clearance Requirement: CAA Access and an L or Q level security clearance
  • Work Environment: Radiological exposure expectations of < 10 mrem/yr. On-site at Eunice, NM there are General Office, Plant Production Areas, and Construction Areas with temporary type construction offices. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets etc.
  • Responsible for the protection of confidential and proprietary information received during employment, including keeping information in strict confidence, exercising a reasonable degree of care to prevent disclosure to others, not disclosing or divulging either directly or indirectly information to others, and not using the information commercially or for any other purpose other than the performance of their duties for Urenco. Confidential information includes information and data of any kind concerning any matters affecting or relating to Urenco business or operations, including compensation, investigations, financial controls, etc.

Primary Functions

  • Perform analysis, calculations, and develops conceptual and basic designs for mechanical systems in new buildings and facilities at Urenco USA (e.g. HVAC, Water Chillers, Compressed Air, water purification, nitrogen piping, effluent ventilation).
  • Represents the Design Engineering team on Feasibility studies related to Mechanical systems for new buildings/facilities
  • Learn the mechanical designs and parameters of the existing facility to be able to determine how the new buildings & systems will tie in
  • Review detailed designs put together by outside design agencies for accuracy to Urenco USA’s mechanical license basis and the applicable codes and standards required from the New Mexico Building Code (Owner Acceptance Reviews).
  • Completes Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) and interfacing with Engineering team mates of other disciplines and gathering needed details from the Operations organization (Ops, Maint, Chem, etc).
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of facility’s design and licensing basis in the assigned area of responsibility (eg applicable ASMEs, NFPAs, ANSIs).
  • Detailed knowledge and ability to apply ASME B31.3; ASME N510, ASME AG-1, ASME BPVC Section VIII, ASME Code Cases 2211-1 and 185
  • Acquire and maintain required training and qualifications necessary to perform assigned job responsibilities.
  • Develop resolution of technical problems in accordance with established procedures and available vendor documents (including but not limited to: Nonconformance Evaluations, Operability Determinations, and Quality Level determinations)
  • Conduct field walk downs in and around the facility as needed for job duties and for general Engineering observations and adeptness.
  • Perform technical and quality reviews of a wide array of engineering and technical products.
  • Communicates and works effectively with other organizations to resolve technical issues and to implement engineering outputs.
  • Apply industrial safety and radiological safety practices in the performance of all field activities and engineering functions.
  • Maintain regulatory and schedule compliance for assigned tasks.
  • Apply sound engineering judgment and professional rigor in the performance of all analyses and assigned tasks.
  • Ability to take direction and function as a team member to solve a variety of engineering problems in the applicable discipline.
  • Understanding of basic engineering principles and problem solving techniques is required.
