Job Summary and Requirements
This is a full-time permanent position working 75 hours biweekly.
At Tourism and Culture, we are a dynamic team of professionals dedicated to the Yukon’s vibrant tourism, arts, museums, heritage, historic sites, and archival communities and their contributions to the Yukon’s quality of life.
The Place Names Program Lead is responsible for coordinating the Yukon Geographical Place Names Program. The program facilitates the naming and renaming of geographical features in the Yukon, including the reinstatement of Indigenous names for lakes, rivers, creeks, and mountains. The position works with the Yukon Geographical Place Names Board, Yukon First Nations and the public.
The ideal candidate has knowledge of Yukon history and geography the Umbrella Final Agreement and Yukon First Nations Final Agreements, as well as experience working with maps and mapping software. The position reports to the Senior Manager of Heritage.

Essential Qualifications
Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how your education, work, and/or volunteer experience and related duties align with the essential qualifications listed below. Ensure a month/year format is used throughout your resume. Please note that selection for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your resume.
Post-secondary education in geography, GIS, social sciences, or related field;
Experience with mapping and relevant software (ArcGIS etc.), and/or GIS equipment;
Experience updating and maintaining geographical databases;
Demonstrated experience researching and analyzing data is considered an asset.
Candidates with an equivalent combination of relevant coursework and recent work experience may be equally considered.

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Travel to various communities and remote locations in Yukon, using various modes of ground, water and air transportation;
Complete required field safety training and follow field safety protocols when working in remote locations.
Relocation expenses will not be considered for this position.
