DESIRABLE SKILLS:

  • Project management experience - Experience using Kanban boards (or similar tools) for collaborative management of projects.
  • Comfortable presenting to and facilitating groups – ability to communicate effectively with different audiences, lead discussions, and coordinate activities/group discussion among team members or stakeholders.
  • Data tooling and scripting- Experience with Power BI, Power Automate, and scripting languages (e.g., VBA, DAX, SQL, R)

Essential Skills and Knowledge:

  • Prioritisation and workload management - Ability to manage a demanding workload and prioritise effectively.
  • Strong communication skills - Ability to write performance reports and present insights in plain English, to effectively explain complicated information to co-workers and stakeholders.
  • Lead administration and coordination of engagement events – take a leading role for planning, organising, and managing the activities and resources related to events including its feedback and evaluation of its effectiveness.
  • Manage workflow processes and identify trends – maintain existing workflow practices whilst considering opportunities to improve the procedures that support the team’s delivery, identify and analyse any patterns, changes, or opportunities for the team.
  • Oversee team communication channels and shared mailboxes - manage and maintain internal and external communication channels and platforms, raising awareness and visibility of the team’s work and achievements amongst stakeholders.
  • Support strategic planning with business planning groups – work collaboratively and consulting the business groups with the development and implementation of the department’s strategic direction and goals.
  • Identifying improvements and efficiencies - Ability to identify areas of improvement, efficiencies through automation and create innovative approaches to delivering better quality services and products.
  • Data analysis and visualisation - Knowledge and experience of data preparation, data analysis, quality assurance, and presentation of results using high quality visualisations to provide robust performance insight

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE:

The Planning and Performance (P&P) team at the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) is dedicated to enhancing performance understanding and outcomes to deliver on departmental priorities. We support strategic planning and performance activities across the department, working closely with stakeholders to foster a culture of continuous improvement. Our goal is to place performance data, insights, planning, and critical thinking at the core of our operations, enabling the department to achieve its strategic objectives and serve the citizens effectively through delivery of the Governments missions.
Planning and Performance Managers will be required to support a variety of planning and performance activities, including the development of strategic plans aligned with organisational priorities; telling the department’s performance story through its metrics and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), monitoring progress, providing assessments; leveraging technology to enhance insights; streamline processes of performance reports and disseminating knowledge and support to optimise planning and performance practices across the department through our Centre of Expertise model. The Centre of Expertise works collaboratively alongside teams and provides central, wrap-around planning and performance support, guidance, and advice to help drive planning and performance maturity.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ability to work proactively and confidently across the department – ability to work on their own initiative, anticipating problems and opportunities to achieve the department’s objectives.
  • Strong organisational and analytical skills - ability planning, prioritising, and manage own tasks effectively and efficiently, as well as applying logical and critical thinking to analyse data and information.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – able to build rapport and trust with stakeholders, clearly expressing information, both written and verbal, in a logical and considered manner.
  • Ability to collaborate with and manage stakeholders at a more senior level - Experience of stakeholder management and ability to build strong working relationships with a diverse range of colleagues
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 - specifically Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams. Experience in using Excel (or similar analytical tools) to manipulate and visualise data.
