Description:
THE OPPORTUNITY
The UGDSB is seeking a dynamic individual to join our team for a permanent full-time opportunity in the capacity of Planning Technician. This is a 12 – month position to commence as soon as possible. Planning Technician will be reporting to the Manager of Planning.
LOCATION: Guelph Board Office (500 Victoria Road North, Guelph, ON)
HOURLY RATE: Base hourly rate: $29.93 to $36.66 per hour; wage rate effective September 1, 2024
FTE/HOURS: 1.0 FTE (35 hours per week)
BOARD INFORMATION: 12-month position; Permanent full-time; OCT Union
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Undergraduate Degree or College Diploma in Urban Planning, Geography or equivalent
- Related experience in planning or school board field would be an asset
- Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is essential
- Proficiency working with Geographic Information Systems
- Proficiency using SPSPlus.net
- Demonstrated research and data management skills
- Excellent written, verbal communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Valid driver’s licence and use of a private vehicle as required
- Knowledge of the Board’s jurisdiction would be an asset
- Membership or eligibility for membership in CIP/OPPI
Responsibilities:
The primary responsibility of this position will include but is not limited to:
- Analyzing historic, current and projected enrolments
- Analysis of accommodation and capital requirements, identification of boundary studies, potential school consolidations and new capital requirements based on 10-year enrolment projections
- Preparation of maps, charts and other support materials
- Maintain and update municipal development, building permit and school-related facility data in SPSPlus.Net
- Support Senior Planner with preparation of responses to municipal planning application circulations, accommodation and boundary review studies
- Assist Senior Planner in preparing reports on enrolment and residential development
- Support maintenance of Planning Department web page
- Support Active & Safe Routes to Schools initiatives
- Respond to public inquiries
- Other duties as assigned
