KEY SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

  • Proven experience as a Plant & Fleet Manager or in a similar role with a strong background as a diesel mechanic.
  • Valid C licence for trucks (essential).
  • Relevant mechanical qualifications (e.g., NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance or equivalent).
  • Excellent knowledge of diesel engines, plant machinery, and fleet management practices.
  • Ability and willingness to drive and operate plant machinery and trucks when required.
  • Strong understanding of health & safety regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to plan, prioritise, and organise work effectively, with strong attention to detail.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in using fleet management software and MS Office Suite.

Responsibilities:

JOB PURPOSE

We are seeking an experienced Plant & Fleet Manager with a strong diesel mechanic background and a valid C licence for trucks. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing and maintaining our fleet of vehicles, plant machinery, and equipment, ensuring they are kept in excellent working condition. This role requires a hands-on individual who is capable of overseeing the maintenance schedules, coordinating repairs, ensure that all vehicles and equipment are operating efficiently and safely.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Fleet Management: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the fleet, including trucks, plant machinery, and equipment, ensuring they are maintained to a high standard and comply with legal requirements.
  • Driving & Operating: Drive and operate trucks and plant machinery when necessary, ensuring safe handling and transportation of equipment.
  • Maintenance & Repairs: Conduct regular inspections, servicing, and repairs of diesel trucks and plant equipment, identifying any issues and resolving them promptly.
  • Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure all fleet operations comply with health and safety regulations and company policies.
  • Scheduling & Planning: Develop and manage maintenance schedules to minimise downtime and ensure all equipment is available and operational when needed.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor and manage stock levels of spare parts, tools, and consumables, ensuring sufficient supplies are available.
  • Budget Management: Prepare and manage budgets for fleet maintenance, repairs, and equipment purchases, ensuring cost-effective solutions are implemented.
  • Documentation & Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate records of vehicle maintenance, servicing, repairs, and inspections, ensuring all documentation is up to date.
  • Compliance: Ensure all fleet vehicles comply with DVSA regulations, MOT requirements, and other legal obligations.
  • Breakdown Support: Provide on-site support for vehicle and equipment breakdowns as required, ensuring a swift resolution to minimise disruptions.
  • Transporting plants, containers, and scaffolding between different job sites.
