Description:

PLANT LAB TECHNICIAN

Role Summary
This role will manage and continuously improve all laboratory processes assigned to the laboratory. This person will utilize good laboratory practice, perform the calibration of inspection, measure and test equipment, and perform final inspection and testing to satisfy the requirements of the ISO quality system. They will support and foster the corporate mission statement, quality policy, and the Responsible Care Management System goals and objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Care for laboratory equipment assets.
  • Responsible for quality testing and certification of products and preparation of C of A’s.
  • Responsible for utilizing ISO procedures that apply to laboratory functions: calibration of inspection, measuring and test equipment, and final inspection and testing.
  • Standardize solutions and calibrate equipment according to schedule.
  • Responsible for properly handling and storing solvents.
  • Properly store product retain samples so they are readily accessible.
  • Maintain finished goods SQC charts in Synergy; observe for trends or out of control situations - bring these to the attention of the Production Planner.
  • Keep the laboratory neat and organized.
  • Complete projects or tasks to continually improve the work product put out by the lab.
  • Observe Pilot’s Laboratory Chemical Hygiene Plan.
  • Perform routine clerical work and fill sample requests.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with the Responsible Care Management System® including the establishment of policies and procedures, assigning responsibilities, and tracking progress.

Competencies

Required:

  • Associates degree in Chemical Lab Technology or 2 years of related science courses.
  • Minimum of two years of vocational experience in a lab or manufacturing plant.
  • May be required to work evenings or weekends.
  • Proven verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in the use of lab equipment such as pH meter, moisture balance, KF apparatus, HPLC, IC, viscometers, and colorimeters
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software.
  • Must have good typing skills.
  • Must have the ability at any and all times to reach all work areas in the plant (i.e., climb ladders, walk catwalks, handle heights to 50 feet, etc.) to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. or to open and close large valves, to don emergency equipment, and to expeditiously evacuate if required.

Recommended:

  • Training or certification in a quality management system.
  • Background in SPC, ISO 9001 quality system, and continuous improvement
