Description:

Are you passionate about sustainability and eager to play a crucial role in transforming CO2 into valuable products? Carbon Upcycling Technologies is looking for a dedicated and experienced Operations Manager to join our innovative team. In this role, you will work alongside our engineering team through the construction, commissioning, and transition to the operations phases of our projects.
Ultimately, you will take the lead in managing the ongoing operations of our state-of-the-art plants. This includes responsibility for the overall day-to-day operation, P&L, leadership, and management of the designated facility. And ensuring that the facility is maintaining environmental and regulatory compliance standards and operating and preserving a safe work environment.
Our plant is co-located within a Cement plant. Customer focus and being able to work collaboratively with our partner/customer is critical.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years of experience in plant operations in cement, oil and gas, fertilizers, potash etc. Experience with increasing management responsibility, experience in industrial services, manufacturing or engineering industries
  • Post Secondary education in a technical discipline/engineering/business management preferred
  • Very desirable to have experience in the construction, commissioning, and operational phases of industrial projects
  • Experience in a Profit/Loss leadership role
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate teams, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to self manage.
  • Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving abilities, with keen attention to detail and quality . Use a proactive approach to identifying and addressing operational challenges.
  • Deep commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards, with experience implementing and managing HSE programs.
  • Superior Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a dynamic, fast paced and challenging environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and be able to effectively communicate with all levels of personnel including executive management
  • Ability to obtain any necessary provincial certifications and licenses that are required
  • Maintenance & Technical systems experience including CMMS experience implementation and execution).

Responsibilities:

PROJECT PHASE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaboration - Work closely with the engineering team during the construction and commissioning phases, ensuring seamless integration and functionality of all systems.
  • Site control – manages all aspects of the project site from implementing safe work procedures, to goods receiving to managing the site access, shifts and hours of work.
  • Commissioning Oversight - Oversee the commissioning process, verifying that all equipment and systems operate as intended.
  • Transfer to Operations - Facilitate a smooth handover from the project team to the operations team, ensuring all documentation, SOPs, training, asset management system and other support systems are in place.

OPERATIONAL PHASE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operations Leadership - Take charge of the daily operations of the plant, ensuring efficient and safe production processes. Establish an operational rhythm using the right tools, clear communication, and accountability to achieve business results. Ensure effective execution with the necessary personnel and equipment for optimal performance.
  • Health & Safety: Uphold the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance, ensuring that all operations are conducted safely and responsibly. Foster a culture that promotes a safe work environment through the development and implementation of safety plans and training; maintain environmental and regulatory compliance standards.
  • Team Management: Lead and mentor the plant operations team of about 15 people, promoting respect, excellence, and continuous improvement. Define roles and responsibilities clearly, and provide feedback, coaching, and development for all staff.
  • Financial accountability - Proactively deliver financial results commensurate with operations budget and company goals.
  • Customer Focus: Drive customer retention and business growth by proactively seeking to understand customer needs and exceeding their expectations.
  • Process Improvement - Continuously seek opportunities to enhance plant operations, leveraging new technologies and best practices to improve efficiency and sustainability.
  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor plant performance, identifying areas for optimization and implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Maintenance Oversight: Ensure that all plant equipment is properly maintained and that preventive maintenance schedules are adhered to.
  • Reporting: Prepare and present regular reports on plant performance, operational issues, and improvement initiatives to senior management.
  • Other tasks as assigned
