JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES

The Platform Engineer is working within the I&O Platforms team and is assigned to the IT Common Tools Platforms. The role reports to the Platform Lead.

SPECIFIC PLATFORM SKILLS

Experience or Knowledge of IT Service Management: Now Platform
Experience of Enterprise Agile Planning: Jira
Experience of Team Collaboration tools: Confluence
Experience of Release & Deployment tools: Terraform

KEY SKILLS REQUIRED

Demonstrable experience within an IT department.
Proficiency in designing scalable and reliable technology Platforms, including knowledge of system components, architecture patterns, and integration techniques.
Demonstrable ability to manage and continuously improve infrastructure components such as servers, databases, cloud services, network and storage systems.
Experience in IT service management (ITSM) and Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL).
Understanding of system development life cycle methodologies (agile software development, rapid prototyping, incremental, synchronise and stabilise, and DevOps/ DevSecOps).
Demonstrable experience of agile development methodologies (such as Scrum/Sprints, Journey Mapping, Kanban).
Strong scripting skills (e.g., Terraform, Python, PowerShell) to automate repetitive tasks, streamline workflows, and improve operational efficiency.
Experience with cloud and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and cloud services to design, deploy, and manage cloud-based infrastructure.
Knowledge of virtualisation technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and containerisation tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) for efficient resource utilisation and deployment.
Experienced in managing and delivering through third-party suppliers, focusing on business outcomes

Responsibilities:

JOB PURPOSE

The Platform Engineer is contributing to the seamless delivery of all IT services for their Platform. This role designs, builds, tests and scales services within a specific I&O Platform. It is heavily involved in design and implementation activities that result in new or improved I&O capabilities, and it brings skills and expertise to such areas as automating tasks (e.g., cloud, network, etc.), provisioning and configuration management; and other aspects involved in preparing and optimising I&O solutions.
The Platform Engineer collaborates closely with Platform Architects, product/platform teams, security, and network specialists, as well as other roles, particularly those in the infrastructure and operations. Being an approachable team-player is therefore crucial for success. The Platform Engineer is expected to demonstrate strong attention to detail and a customer-centric mindset.
