Description:

Hydro Global Business Services (GBS) is an organizational area that operates as an internal service provider for the Hydro group. Its ultimate purpose is to deliver relevant IT, financial and HR business services to all business areas within the company.

JOB SUMMARY:

The PLC/Ignition Programmer will design, develop, and install controller system software for Hydro. This role will require travel to Hydro locations to analyze system requirements, write and install custom programmable logic code, test system efficiency, and provide ongoing operational support. This position reports to the Team Lead, Process Control NA.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • PLC technical certification.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience as a PLC Programmer.

PREFERRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Detailed knowledge of PLC automation software and coding languages.
  • In-depth knowledge of manufacturing and mechanical processes.
  • Proficiency in CAD and AutoCAD software.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Must possess excellent problem solving and trouble shooting skills.
  • Experience with Ignition modules, such as Vision, Perspective, and Reporting is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Familiarity with industrial automation systems and processes including HMIs and data historians.

Responsibilities:

  • Client Interaction: Travel to client locations and engage with clients to understand their mechanical or electrical automation requirements.
  • System Design: Draw electrical or mechanical schematics to illustrate how automation processes will be implemented.
  • Programming: Develop and install machine programs using various automation software and custom coding languages.
  • Testing and Validation: Determine machine automation test criteria prior to final installation, and test automated systems for efficiency, safety, and reliability.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve system errors, ensuring smooth operation and optimal performance.
  • Installation Oversight: Oversee the successful installation and integration of PLC programs.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of development processes, system configurations, and modifications.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical support to clients, addressing any issues or questions regarding PLC systems.
