The Ministry of Public Safety and Emergency Services has significant oversight and involvement in the public security and emergency services through its various divisions and operations. The department is responsible for the administration of law enforcement, correctional services, policing and police oversight and public safety. The Ministry supports crime prevention and restorative justice programs, as well as programs and services to support victims of crime, including those affected by domestic violence and human trafficking. The Ministry also coordinates large scale emergency and disaster prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery programs and initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS
University graduation in a related field such as Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Social Sciences etc. plus 4 years progressively responsible experience in Policy Analysis and Development, Corrections or Criminal Justice Sector, Public Administration, Project Management or equivalent as described below.
Equivalency: Directly related experience or education considered on the basis of: 1 year of experience for 1 year of education or 1 year of education for 1 year of experience.

Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Deputy Director, Technology and Operations, the Custody Operations Branch (COB). Policy Analyst is responsible for providing strategic policy advice, and project management services that promote the use of evidence-based programs within COB. All work is conducted with the goal of ensuring the interests and priorities of the department and Government of Alberta are effectively represented in COB initiatives, projects, and activities.
As a Policy Analyst you will provide professional expertise and support to innovative practices implemented in COB while navigating operational realities. This will be achieved by engaging in thorough, timely, and accurate research and analysis to support the development of strategic priorities, initiative, policy, and procedures. In addition, this position is critical in monitoring current criminal justice issues and proactively identifying potential solutions for future business operations.
You will provide support to the COB through the development of policy, procedure and practice that relate to several initiatives that the Branch is responsible for. You will regularly liaise with working groups of branch managers, supervisors and front line-staff in program and policy development and implementation strategies.
The position facilitates the collection of information utilized in Ministry briefing materials, represents the COB in Ministry committees and working groups and ensures the Ministry is provided with current and reliable information regarding emerging correctional practice.
