The Policy Lead should confidently represent Heathrow externally, advocating for core business priorities and key policy asks, while effectively communicating the functions and operations of the UK’s largest airport.
Given Heathrow’s unique role as the UK’s hub airport and global gateway, this position demands someone capable of thriving in a busy environment, adept at prioritising issues, maintaining and enhancing Heathrow’s reputation, managing pressure, and fostering relationships with a diverse array of stakeholders both within and outside the organisation.
The role resides within Heathrow’s Policy and Public Affairs team, which integrates with the broader dynamic Communications function. The Policy Lead will collaborate with colleagues to support proactive campaigns and leverage their insights to influence key strategies and business objectives.
- Working with subject matter experts across the business to develop a set of Heathrow Government policy priorities as well as managing expectations on what priority issues are.
- Developing and maintaining excellent relationships internally and with a wide range of UK Government stakeholders including with the Department for Transport amongst others.
- Supporting the activation of both proactive and reactive communications strategies to build the reputation of Heathrow.
- Managing the Policy Team to help deliver change on various policy issues and to build their own networks.
- Participating in Heathrow’s on-call Incident Response Team and occasional work outside standard office hours, including attending conferences and stakeholder dinners.
- This role requires someone who is experienced at working with internal stakeholders to disseminate complicated and technical information and turn into clear asks of Government. The candidate will need to be able to prioritise competing business needs and understand the wider political landscape to be able to prioritise asks from Heathrow.
- This role requires someone who is experienced and confident in representing an organisation to external audiences. They will own Heathrow’s relationships with key civil servants to build understanding and support for Heathrow’s policy asks and therefore will need a credible and authoritative voice.
- The role holder will be seen as a source of expertise and go-to resource for communications advice from across Heathrow.
- This role requires outstanding written and verbal communication skills. They may be asked to represent the company at public meetings, debates and consultations.
This role requires a high level of personal resilience. The individual should be able to deal with highly pressurised situations and have the capacity to withstand setbacks whilst maintaining a positive attitude.This role also requires line management experience.
