QUALIFICATIONS:

Completion of a four-year undergraduate degree (Honours equivalent) in economics, commerce, public administration, geography, urban planning or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of five years of experience in a research or analyst role related to economics, commerce, public administration, urban planning or equivalent.
  • Progressive experience in research and analysis, preferably in both the private and public sectors.
  • Experience with research and analysis of primary and secondary data sources using appropriate methodologies, quantitative and statistical analysis and providing facts, evidence and conclusions to support internal and external decision-making.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS ARE NECESSARY:

  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Power Point and Excel.
  • Experience with or ability to quickly learn other data management and presentation programs relevant to the position.
  • Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated excellent, organization and presentation skills.
  • Excellent comprehension of municipal and provincial policy forms and practices including policy, by-laws, Acts and Regulations.
  • Strong team player with ability to carry out multiple tasks and work effectively and independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to apply research methods, approaches and tools such as quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis.
  • Strong data visualization, statistical analysis and interpretation skills.

  • Proficiency in synthesizing complex concepts and information from a variety of sources.
  • Ability to translate complex technical information clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to draw conclusions from data that may be contradictory and ambiguous, including the ability to determine what is most relevant.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to confirm data accuracy

Responsibilities:

Reports to and acts under the direction of the Manager or designate. Works closely with Service Area managers in developing and documenting policy initiatives across a wide range of practices through needs assessment, document writing and editing and information design to produce content that serves staff across the corporation. Undertakes the compilation, maintenance and application of data into reports for staff, council and public use. Develops and assists in the presentation of instructional and communications materials designed to inform both staff and the public on new policy developments and internal practices.
