SRI International’s Center for Innovation Strategy and Policy (CISP) helps organizations, regions, and countries achieve long-term economic and social impact through effective investments in science, technology, and innovation. Based in Arlington, VA, the Center is staffed with experienced professionals who conduct research, analysis, program evaluation, and strategic planning for private and public sector clients around the world in the following areas:
- Science and technology program development and support
- Science, technology, and innovation related policy development
- Innovation ecosystem assessment
- Innovation strategy and training
- Complex program evaluation
- Technology-based economic and workforce development
- Advanced analytics in R&D analysis
We are looking for an early- or mid-career Policy Research Analyst to work a hybrid work schedule from our Arlington, VA office.
Responsibilities:
As part of CISP, the Research Analyst will contribute to science, technology, and innovation policy research, analysis, strategic planning, and evaluations, and help deliver novel solutions for a diverse range of clients:
Specifically, the Research Analyst will:
- Execute project tasks (e.g., analyze data, conduct literature reviews, synthesize information, interview stakeholders, write reports and other documents) across multiple simultaneous projects under the direction of project leaders or other senior staff while managing time and project resources independently as needed
- Support project leaders or other senior staff to envision, coordinate, and evaluate initiatives and policies related to science, technology, and innovation
- Help project leaders develop appropriate methods to solve complex science, technology, and innovation policy problems
- Communicate the results of analyses clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, to team members and clients (as needed)
- Produce pieces of well-written, high-quality reports and presentations
- Collaborate well in small teams
- Apply a variety of analytic methods to a diverse range of qualitative and quantitative data
- Perform administrative duties (scheduling, notetaking)
- Occasionally travel domestically and internationally (when conditions permit)
Qualifications:
- U.S. Citizenship required due to government contract requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred, in a STEM field, public policy, or other policy-oriented field in the social sciences
- 1–5 years of work experience related to science, technology, and innovation within one or more of the following domains: science and innovation policy, technology strategy, technology transfer and commercialization, program evaluation, and data analysis
- Experience with R/Python programming or econometrics strongly preferred, but not required
- Strong attention to detail
- Research experience involving both qualitative and quantitative methods, including policy review, stakeholder interviews, case studies, feasibility studies, and statistical analysis
- Demonstrated ability to: adapt to different roles based on project needs; work independently with minimal oversight; exercise critical thinking
- Effective time management and ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with team members and clients

The salary range is: $60,507-$80,172/yr. Salary ranges will vary and are based on several factors, including geographic location, market competitiveness and equity amongst internal employees in similar roles. Positions may also qualify for SRI’s Pay for Outstanding Performance program or the annual Performance Based Compensation program.
