PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
To be recommended for appointment, the candidate must have the minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Theatre/Theatre Arts or appropriate professional experience. An MFA in Theatre is suggested, and at least 2-3 years of experience teaching theater arts at the undergraduate level are preferred.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate may teach courses in at least one of the following areas:
- Acting (intro to Acting, Scene Study, Characterization)
- Acting Styles (including Shakespeare, Chekhov, commedia, physical theater, Western and non-Western styles)
- Voice for the Actor, Speech for the Actor, Accents and Dialects
- Seminar courses and Performance courses highlighting the role of cultural identity in performance
- World Theater
- Theater History
- Dramaturgy and Research
- Playwriting
- Directing
- Theatre-based General Education courses
The exact assignment is dependent upon the candidate’s strengths and departmental needs. The position requires the successful candidate to be on campus and to teach in person; design the class (consistent with approved curriculum); teach fully independently; grade students; and be available for office hours and fulfill standard SSU teaching duties.
