The Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and Medical Genetics in the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar in Medical Genomics/Bioinformatics .

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Tarailo-Graovac group is seeking a highly motivated post-doctoral research scholar to be part of an exciting area of deciphering genetic modifiers for rare human disorders using model organism and whole genome sequencing.
This position allows the candidate a unique opportunity to be exposed to multidisciplinary approach (human and model organism genomics; wet¿ anddry¿ lab approaches) and to contribute innovative research with a substantial direct translational potential (e.g. better diagnostic and prognostic approaches, and identification of new treatment targets for rare disease patients).
This position offers the candidate opportunity to instruct and supervise technicians, mentor trainees and to develop and lead the individual research program in the Tarailo-Graovac group focused on modulators of rare disease genes.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • PhD degree in Genome Sciences, Medical Genetics/Genomics, Bioinformatics or related disciplines within 3 years
  • Extensive knowledge of genomics and genetics
  • Extensive knowledge of Unix, Linux, R, Python and/or related programming languages (e.g. Perl)
  • Experience with Cluster Computing
  • Experience working with animal models of disease (genomics)
  • Experience in molecular genetics will be considered and asset
  • The candidate is expected to show
