The Colorado School of Mines Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Fellow position in hydrologic science.
This position will lead work on a high-profile NOAA funded project to advance disturbance models and parameterizations within the National Water Model. Responsibilities primarily include 1) developing and conducting independent research related to watershed and hydrologic disturbances, and 2) assisting in managing a research group of graduate students. Candidates should have strong expertise in machine learning, spatial data analysis, remote sensing, hydrologic and/or operational modeling. Funding is available for one year, with the possibility of extension if additional research funding is secured.
The position will be located in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado. The successful candidate will be offered a one-year full-time Post-Doctoral Fellow position, with possibility of extension. The start date is January 2, 2025.
Education and Experience:
- PhD in civil or environmental engineering, hydrology, watershed science or related field
- Expertise in watershed hydrology, machine learning, spatial data analysis, and hydrologic modeling
- Mentoring of graduate or undergraduates preferre
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Programming, machine learning and statistical analysis
- Hydrologic and/or stormwater modeling
- GIS, Google Earth Engine (GEE), or other spatial data platforms
- Watershed and disturbance hydrology
- Remote sensing and satellite applications
- Ability to mentor undergraduate and graduate students
- Proposal idea generation and proposal writin
Responsibilities:
- Lead independent research activities in collaboration with faculty advisor
- Participate in a weekly 1-hour research group meeting
- Meet weekly with graduate and undergraduate students to provide research guidance
- Submit minimum of 2 proposals each year
- Submit minimum of 2 research papers each year
- Conduct preliminary reviews of student research products: abstracts, posters, proposals, defense presentations, thesis, technical papers
- Assist graduate students in submitting their work for publication, as appropriate
- Present findings at regional and national conferences

Annual Rate
$65,000 - $70,000
- This position may potentially qualify for a hybrid work schedule which can be discussed post-hire depending on research needs.
