Description:
POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOW
This is an excellent opportunity for a post-doctoral researcher to join an exciting research project funded by Worldwide Cancer Research: Nucleoli, inflammation and cancer risk: does size matter? Advanced age is one of the most significant risk factors for cancer. Two hallmarks of aging are enlarged nucleoli and inflammation. This project will use state of the art imaging technologies on unique human and animal tissues we have access to, alongside phenotypic assays and molecular studies, to determine the relationship between nucleolar size, inflammation and cancer initiation. The project will be supported by expert collaborators from Edinburgh, Glasgow and Newcastle Universities. This research has far-reaching implications as it will help us understand how age predisposes to cancer, allowing identification of biological markers and interventions that are applicable to this population.
While a background in high-content image analysis is advantageous, it is not a strict requirement. We warmly welcome applications from researchers with strong expertise in molecular biology and data analysis, who are eager to apply their skills in an interdisciplinary setting. This project will allow you to deliver an ambitious and impactful research agenda and develop a strong research profile, placing you in an excellent position to take the next important step in your academic career.
This post is fixed term (36 months) and full-time (35 hours per week); however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns.
The salary for this post is Grade UE07 £40,247 to £47,874 per annum.
YOUR SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES FOR SUCCESS:
- A PhD (or near completion) in cancer biology, biochemistry, molecular biology or a related field.
- Knowledge of, or a passion in, image analysis and quantitative data extraction.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and experience of working collaboratively as part of a team.
- Initiative and independence in managing workload, with excellent project management skills.
- A growing track record of producing high-quality and interdisciplinary academic scholarship.
