Description:
We are looking to recruit a talented Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join our vibrant and innovative laboratory with world-leading expertise in the biology of oxygen homeostasis here at the Target Discovery Institute, Nuffield Department of Medicine.
Our group works across the entire spectrum of biomedical science; aiming to use biochemistry and molecular biology to better inform studies into integrated physiology. As a Postdoctoral Research Scientist, you will be studying cardiovascular responses to hypoxia that are transduced by a novel system of oxygen sensing recently elucidated in this laboratory (Masson, Keeley et al., 2019, 10.1126/science. aaw0112).
You will be responsible for testing hypotheses and analysing scientific data from a variety of sources, reviewing and refining working hypotheses as appropriate as well as adapting existing and developing new scientific techniques and experimental protocols. You will be tasked with developing ideas for generating research income, and presenting detailed research proposals to senior researchers, and you will also be responsible for managing your own academic research and administrative activities and contributing ideas for new research projects. This involves small scale project management, to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines
To successful in this role, you will hold a PhD/DPhil (or close to completion), together with relevant experience, and knowledge in the discipline to work within established research programmes. You will have experience in assays relevant to cardiovascular research. You will have excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for publication, present research proposals and results, and represent the research group at meetings along with the experience of actively collaborating in the development of research articles for publication.
