POSITION SUMMARY

Applications are invited for the role of Post-Doctoral Researcher at the Centre for Arts Research and Practice (Carpe).
The Lullabies Project seeks to investigate and map one of the most widely practiced yet obscure art forms: lullabies. The project will begin in Ireland working within local communities to document local practices of lullaby singing; investigate the meaning and significance of lullabies; and explore their effect and affect on carers and infants alike.
We are seeking an ethno/musicologist, working at 50% of full time, to conduct ethnographic and recording fieldwork, analysing texts and music. Candidates must have a PhD in ethnomusicology, musicology, or a related field with significant experience conducting fieldwork. Ability with the Irish language is preferred but not required.
The successful applicant will be based at the Centre for Arts Research and Practice (CARPE) in the School of Film, Music, and Theatre, University College Cork and will work closely with Dr Alexander Khalil to develop this project.
Project Title: Lullabies Project
Post Duration: 12 Months 0.5 FTE
Salary: €43,908 – €50,403 (IUA PD1 Salary Scale) pro rata 0.5 FTE
