ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- A PhD in Photonics, Physics, Nanotechnologies or related disciplines.
- Previous experience in the development of optical systems.
- Previous experience on Raman spectroscopy.
- Previous experience on Raman spectroscopy for tissue.
- Coding skills in Phyton, Matlab and C++.
- Good command in spoken and written English

Responsibilities:
You will be working in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary group. The team is composed by material scientists, physicists, neuroscientists, electronic engineers, computational scientists, biotechnologist and biomedical engineers, sharing their expertise to work at the border of these multiple disciplines. The main aim will be to correlating multifunctional signals in 3D printed neurochips for next generation studies on neural degeneration, via spectroscopy and electrophysiological recordings.
The Smart Healthcare Technologies Research Unit is coordinated by Prof. Massimo De Vittorio, who has extensive experience in the development of science and technology applied to nanophotonics, nanoelectronics and nano and micro electromechanical systems (NEMS/MEMS) for applications in the fields of life-science, energy and ICT.
The research focuses on environment, health and safety (EHS), functionalized materials and robotics. This includes developing a new generation of bio interfaces based on novel electronic, piezoelectric, acoustic and optoacoustic technologies to interact more efficiently with living cells and organisms. Activities include basic research and full prototyping (up to TRL 6-7), market-oriented technology development and translational research of medical devices.
Your main responsibility will be:
- Develop a Raman spectroscopy system that can be used in environments with limited space, including surgery rooms for research purposes
- Use the developed system to collect Raman spectroscopy datasets from murine models using implantable fiber optics
- Develop algorithms to distinguish between different brain regions only based on Raman spectra
