Description:

The Nuclear Science and Engineering Division is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral appointee to join the Nuclear Applications and Economics group (

). This position seeks experience in several technical fields including but not limited to nuclear economics, energy market modeling and analysis, and advanced reactor design and modeling.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Perform economics analyses of nuclear reactors and facilities.
  • Performs energy market modeling and energy transition analyses.
  • Contribute to the design and analysis of advanced nuclear reactors such as SFRs, MSRs, HTGRs, and Micro-reactors and their associated fuel cycles.
  • Develop and apply computational strategies to improve the modeling & simulation of nuclear and energy market economics analyses.
  • Produce papers and reports describing results of development work, analyses, and investigations.

Position Requirements

  • This level of knowledge is typically achieved through a formal education in nuclear engineering, physics, or a related field at the PhD level with zero to five years of employment experience.
  • Experience in economics applied to energy market systems modeling.
  • Knowledge in costing analyses of nuclear facilities.
  • Knowledge of nuclear engineering principles, theories, and practices for the design and analysis of reactor systems.
  • Research experience in one or more specialized area of nuclear science and engineering.
  • Experience in computer programming and scripting.
  • Skill in the conception, design, and evaluation of innovative approaches and solutions to quantitative problems.
  • Skills in the use of computers and in the analysis of computational results, clear and effective documentation and communication of results, and interaction with co-workers and support personnel.
  • Experience with writing funding proposals for innovative ideas.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, oral, and written communication.
