Description:
Several Postdoctoral Associate positions are available in the School of Public Health and Health Professions as part of our Pathways to the Professoriate Program. The purpose of the program is to help diversify the public health professoriate; to attract and retain academics scholars who are underrepresented to join the tenure track faculty in the School. The postdoctoral associate(s) will be provided with access to mentoring, research collaborations and data as they build their research programs in preparation for a tenure track position at ours or another research-intensive university.
The School is able to support postdoctoral associates in the following areas:

- addictions, especially tobacco control;
- women’s health;
- chronic diseases of aging;
- environmental exposure and health in vulnerable populations.
Scholars will have a home in one of three departments in the SPHHP (Community Health and Health Behavior, Epidemiology and Environmental Health, or Exercise and Nutrition Sciences) and will be matched with a team of experienced research mentors. It is expected that successful candidates will have opportunity to publish manuscripts and prepare grant applications during this postdoctoral period, helping to prepare them for a successful transition into an academic faculty position here in Buffalo or elsewhere.
Key responsibilities:
- Write manuscripts for publication
- Collect and analyze data
- Write funding proposals
At the time of the appointment, the postdoctoral scholar must have been awarded a doctoral degree (or completed all the requirements of such) in an appropriate field, within the past five years from the appointment.
