Description:
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION
The position requires a PhD in molecular biology, cell biology, microbiology, biochemistry, genetics, immunology or related area. Experience in a range of molecular techniques, mouse tumor models, flow cytometry, mass spectrometry and bioinformatics is highly desired.
Responsibilities:
A postdoctoral position in molecular cancer research is available in Dr. Paola Marcato’s laboratory at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
The research projects in the Marcato laboratory have the long-term goal of developing improved therapeutic strategies for breast cancer based on a precision medicine approach. We use transcriptome and genome-wide functional assays, cell lines, patient-derived xenografts (PDXs), mouse tumor models, and analysis of published patient datasets to identify biomarkers, study breast cancer stem cells (CSCs) and understand factors important in breast cancer progression. These factors include epigenetic modifications such as DNA methylation and long non-coding RNA (lncRNA). Using these tools and assays, the newly hired postdoctoral fellow will lead a discovery project on the role lncRNA in breast cancer progression and tumor immune evasion.
The Marcato lab is in the Sir Charles Tupper Medical Sciences Building at Dalhousie University in beautiful coastal Halifax, Nova Scotia. Halifax is a vibrant multi-cultural city that is highly walkable and livable. The postdoctoral position will be within the Department of Pathology, one of Canada’s top biomedical research universities.
The position will commence as soon as possible. The initial appointment will be for a one-year term, with potential for annual renewal. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. There are also a number local fellowship opportunities that the applicant will be encouraged to apply for.
Interested candidates should send a letter of interest, CV highlighting publications and contact information of three references to:
