Description:
ABOUT THE POSITION
A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Anton Jetten at NIEHS, part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), in the Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. The lab studies the mechanisms by which GLI-Similar (GLIS) Krüppel-like zinc finger transcription factors regulate gene transcription using single cell and spatial transcriptomics, and ChIP-Seq technologies in order to understand their role in the regulation of several physiological processes in several tissues, including pancreas, kidney, brain, immune cells, and testis and in relation to several diseases, e.g., diabetes, polycystic kidney disease, hypothyroidism, metabolic syndrome, cancer, inflammation and fibrosis (PMC6777873, PMC7606550, PMC8361148, PMC8550236, PMID:36793061). The successful candidate will use a multi-omics approach (embryonic stem cells, ChIP-Seq, single cell RNA-Seq, ATAC-Seq, epigenetics, proteomics, metabolomics) to obtain insights into the mechanisms by which GLIS proteins control gene transcription and these biological processes and are implicated in disease. The NIEHS/NIH has many extensive core facilities, including cores in bioinformatics, genomics, bioinformatics, mass spectrometry, flow cytometry, proteomics, and metabolomics, and a transgenic mouse core that offer the trainee wide latitude in the design and pursuit of their research questions.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must be very close to obtaining or have a Ph.D. and/or M.D. with <5 years of postdoctoral training. The candidate should have wide experience in molecular and cellular biology techniques and transcriptional regulation, excellent writing and communication skills, and a strong work ethic.
