Description:
Title: Postdoctoral Fellow (TRAIL lab)
Start Date: December 2, 2024
End Date: December 2, 2025
Reporting to: Dr. Sally Lindsay
This is a 1-year, temporary full-time position with potential for renewal depending on funding and performance.
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral fellow with interest in improving the social inclusion for young people with disabilities. This fellow will work with a Senior Scientist and multi-disciplinary research teams in the Bloorview Research Institute (fully affiliated with the University of Toronto), TRAIL lab and other partners and community organizations to contribute to a research program focused on improving inclusion for people with disabilities and their families. They will contribute to ongoing projects in the lab including our project, “Exploring the lived experiences of accessible and affordable housing among families with children, youth and young adults with disabilities and identifying solutions to enhance inclusion” (SSHRC funded). This position requires someone with experience in qualitative research, effective writing, and knowledge translation skills. The postdoctoral fellow will contribute to TRAIL lab projects and help mentor other students within the lab.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Recent PhD in Sociology, Rehabilitation or Health Sciences, Psychology, Occupational Science, Disability Studies, or related field
- Strong academic record and previous research experience preferred
- Experience with data analysis and REDCap an asset
- Experience with interviewing and qualitative analysis (NVIVO), preferred
- Experience with systematic reviews and relevant software (e.g., Covidence), preferred
- Advanced word processing skills (MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Endnotes), technical competencies, and ability to learn new software as needed
- Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks in a timely manner
- Flexibility to adapt to a changing workload
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent English communication skills (oral and written)
- Experience with knowledge mobilization, preferred
- Experience working with people with disabilities is an asset
- Commitment to and support of the organizational mission and vision of the hospital and the TRAIL lab
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to data collection (e.g., organize recruitment, conduct interviews, focus groups, and/or survey data), data analysis, and KT activities
- Write, prepare, and format manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals
- Contribute to writing and submitting grant applications
- Support the training and supervision of research students
- Develop new ideas, project proposals including grants, research protocols
- Present your work at conferences
- Other duties as assigned
