Description:
ABOUT THE POSITION
Postdoctoral position to study the role of low-fidelity DNA polymerases in genome (in)stability. National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland, USA. A postdoctoral research position will be available starting March 1st, 2025 in the laboratory of Dr. Roger Woodgate Section on DNA Replication, Repair and Mutagenesis (SDRRM), NICHD, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland. Scientists in the SDRRM are utilizing a number of model organisms to understand the cellular functions of low-fidelity DNA polymerases. Current projects include investigating their role in the evolution of antibiotic resistance in bacteria; their role in promoting mutagenesis in Mycobacterium tuberculosis; and the role(s) of DNA polymerase iota in human cells. The position is open to individuals with less than 5 years of postdoctoral experience. The successful applicant will be expected to lead their own projects, as well as to contribute to collaborative research efforts in the lab. At least one first-authored publication, and a strong background in one, or more, of the following disciplines: Protein expression, purification and characterization; expertise in cell and molecular biology techniques; and/or in vitro primer extension replication assays. Effective oral and written communication skills are required. The laboratory is located in the suburbs of Maryland and is just a 30-minute metro ride to downtown Washington, DC. The area is served by three airports with easy and numerous flight connections throughout the USA and Europe. Please email a CV, statement of research interests and names of three references to woodgate@nih.gov. Competitive stipends are determined by the number of years of relevant postdoctoral experience. Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis until the position is filled.
