POSITION SUMMARY

Prof. Yan Yu will join Washington University in St. Louis as the Art Krieg Professor of Chemistry and of Biomedical Engineering in July 2025, from Indiana University. The Yu laboratory is recruiting two postdoc fellows to lead projects centered at the interface of biophysics, membrane biology, immunology, and nanoengineering.

Responsibilities:

The Yu group aims to understand, detect, and engineer immune functions and immune-related diseases, by employing optical imaging and nanotechnology-based quantitative tools. We are recruiting postdocs’ expertise in one or more areas as follows:

  • High-resolution fluorescence imaging (for candidates with strong expertise in optics, no experience on cell studies is necessary).
  • Cell biology and biophysics, with priority given to expertise related to cell membranes, membrane receptors, endocytosis, and intracellular membrane organelles.
  • Immunology and immune engineering.
  • Mechanobiology.
  • Bioanalytical chemistry, with priority given to expertise related to developing cell sensing techniques.
  • Candidates with interdisciplinary backgrounds are welcome to join, bringing new ideas and technologies to the lab.

In addition to excellent research skills, we are seeking an applicant who prioritizes providing proactive mentorship to students, honing communication skills, and working in an interdisciplinary environment. Lab members will have the opportunity to collaborate with researchers in the Medical School, Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering, etc.
