Description:
We are seeking to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on the topic of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) code development and application to large civil aircraft. The post holder would hence have a demonstrable and genuine interest in practical aircraft aerodynamic simulation. Specifically, the work will contribute to the development of Airbus¿ next generation CFD code, exploring high-order spatial discretisation schemes and fast linear/non-linear harmonic methods for multidisciplinary aeroelastic simulation.
You should have a PhD (or be about to obtain) in computational aerodynamics, numerical analysis, scientific computing or another relevant quantitative science, with specific experience in state-of-the-art computational fluid dynamics technology at the developer level (e.g. a track record in programming languages such as C++ and Python and experience of working with version control systems). Strong interest in computational aircraft aerodynamics and aeroelasticity is essential for this position. Excellent and ambitious candidates with relevant skills and high levels of achievement are sought. The ability to work within a team, to communicate across disciplines and to support other researchers is essential.
The formal supervisor is Dr Sebastian Timme. You will also engage with other members of the CFD group as well as European partners contributing to the next-generation CFD project.
If you are still awaiting your PhD to be awarded you will be appointed at Grade 6, spine point 30. Upon written confirmation that you have been awarded your PhD, your salary will be increased to Grade 7, spine point 31.
This post is available as soon as possible until 31 May 2026.
