Description:
The University of Liverpool invites applications for a post-doctoral research position in Experimental Quantum Physics, with a focus on the MAGIS-100 and AION projects. The successful candidate will engage in the development and application of quantum sensor technologies using cold-atom interferometry. The role will involve contributions to both the MAGIS-100 project at Fermilab and the AION (Atom Interferometer Observatory and Network) initiative.
Responsibilities:
Conducting research on atom interferometry techniques.
Developing a phase shear platform and understanding its operation and output.
Developing and analysing data from quantum sensors.
Participating in the installation and operation of phase shear platform in the MAGIS-100 interferometer.
Exploring the application of quantum sensor techniques in detecting dark matter and gravitational waves.
Integrating research findings from AION to enhance the MAGIS-100 project outcomes.
We seek a candidate with expertise that will strengthen our research into atomic physics, data analysis, and instrumentation. Ideal candidates will have experience with atomic physics and its application to fundamental physics, skills in simulation and a working knowledge of optics as well as a strong background in data analysis.
The post is based in Liverpool for 12 months (with the possibility of extension). Join us in advancing the field of Experimental Neutrino Physics and contribute to ground-breaking research in a collaborative and dynamic environment.
A PhD in Physics or a closely related field with a focus on experimental atomic physics is required for this role.
If you are still awaiting your PhD to be awarded you will be appointed at Grade 6, spine point 30. Upon written confirmation that you have been awarded your PhD, your salary will be increased to Grade 7, spine point 31.
