PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in plasma boundary simulation using codes such as SOLPS-ITER, UEDGE, EDGE2D, SOLEDGE, EMC3-EIRENE (or similar), experimental analysis of boundary plasmas, or both.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs

Responsibilities:

  • Perform plasma boundary simulations using the SOLPS-ITER code, make predictions for future experiments, and compare results to existing datasets
  • Couple the boundary plasma simulations to pedestal, core, and plasma material models, using existing frameworks and participating in the development of new methods
  • Collaborating with a broad and diverse team, including experimentalists and computational colleagues, on domestic and international facilities in areas such as: liquid metal divertor components; response to actuators such as Radio Frequency (RF) heating; extrinsic impurity seeding; and linear plasma devices like MPEX (Materials Plasma Exposure experiment).
  • Produce high impact publications in key peer-reviewed journals, and conference presentations on plasma boundary simulations and divertor physics topics.
  • Ensure compliance with environment, safety, health, and quality program requirements.
  • Maintain strong commitment to the implementation and perpetuation of ORNL’s values and ethics.
  • Deliver ORNL’s mission by aligning behaviors, priorities, and interactions with our core values of Impact, Integrity, Teamwork, Safety, and Service.
