Description:
THE OPPORTUNITY:
We are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to investigate the mucosal immune and inflammatory response during murine infection with the parasite Schistosoma mansoni , focusing on RNA sequencing, multi-dimensional and multi-omics data analysis, and integration of such with cellular immunology readouts.
The specific aim of this position will be to reveal core immune and inflammatory features of the mucosal response to S. mansoni , with a focus on defining the role of macrophages, dendritic cells and CD4+ T cells in induction vs regulation of intestinal and/or pulmonary tissue damage and repair during murine infection with this parasite. Part of this will involve linking sequencing data with immune readouts, microbiota and metabolic data sets, to identify key mechanisms that promote or regulate mucosal inflammation against S. mansoni .
This post is advertised as full-time (35 hours per week).
YOUR SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES FOR SUCCESS:
- Planning and execution of the research project, under general guidance from the PI
- Experimental work on the mucosal response to S. mansoni, using a range of techniques including murine infection with this parasite, isolation of immune cells from tissues ex vivo , RNAseq, 16S and metagenomic sequencing, and advanced multi-dimensional data analysis and integration
- Presentation and discussion of research findings within and beyond the research group, including via publications, presentation at conferences etc.
- Supervision of students and junior staff working on the projectContribute to laboratory organisation and maintenance
