Description:

The Department of Computer Science is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) to join an innovative project at the intersection of Knowledge Engineering and Music AI.
This project will pioneer the creation of a multimodal knowledge graph to preserve, explore, and expand Liverpool¿s musical heritage. The PDRA will work closely with local cultural organisations to understand their needs and build on existing ways of organising music information. A core focus of this research is the development of innovative AI-based approaches to interact with and derive insights from the multimodal knowledge graph, thereby unlocking new pathways for investigating and appreciating Liverpool¿s musical heritage. This position presents a unique opportunity for the PDRA to apply and refine their expertise in knowledge representation, machine learning, and semantic web technologies within a real-world context of cultural significance.
This project is a unique collaboration between the Computer Science and Music departments at the University of Liverpool, providing a stimulating interdisciplinary environment. The PDRA will be embedded within the Knowledge Representation and Machine Learning research groups, working closely with Dr. Jacopo de Berardinis, Dr. Valentina Tamma, and Dr. Eduardo Coutinho.
We are open to a variety of candidates for this role: the main criteria are a proven track record in a related area, preferably, in knowledge engineering research. The detailed Person Specification is given below. We are open-minded about research background and will provide the necessary resources to help the candidate familiarise with the underlying technologies in the musical heritage domain. The criteria for appointment will be skills and motivation, rather than a narrower view of publication record or specific sub-discipline. To be considered for this post, you should include a cover letter that clearly sets out both your skills and your career motivation.
Please contact Dr de Berardinis jacopo.deberardinis@liverpool.ac.uk for any informal enquiries.
This post is fixed term for up to 9 months.
You will have a PhD in a relevant computer science and engineering discipline (e.g., Knowledge Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, etc.).
If you are still awaiting your PhD to be awarded you will be appointed at Grade 6, spine point 30. Upon written confirmation that you have been awarded your PhD, your salary will be increased to Grade 7, spine point 31.
The University of Liverpool is committed to enhancing workforce diversity. We actively seek to attract, develop, and retain colleagues with diverse backgrounds and perspectives. We welcome applications from all genders/gender identities, Black, Asian, or Minority Ethnic backgrounds, individuals living with a disability, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community
