Description:

The Department of Mathematics at the University of York seeks a talented researcher to work with Prof. Roger Colbeck on the theory of quantum technologies. This is a fixed term position for three years funded by EPSRC’s Integrated Quantum Networks Hub and the appointee will contribute to a work package on quantum protocols. One of the main aims of the post is to investigate the best ways to put device-independent protocols into practice, including quantum random number generation and quantum key distribution, which will involve finding and tuning protocols to real-world conditions. The experimental part of the project will be undertaken at the National Physical Laboratory by other researchers, and the appointee will be required to interface with the experimental team, ensuring that the ideas developed are directly put into practice.
The start date is from 1st January 2025.

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATION NEEDED

  • PhD in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, a related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Research experience in quantum information theory
  • Experience working in device-independence and/or methods for calculating quantum entropies is desirable
  • We will add the University’s Equality and Diversity statement to all advertisements:
    Interview date: To be confirmed
For informal enquiries: please contact Roger Colbeck (roger.colbeck@york.ac.uk)
The University strives to be diverse and inclusive – a place where we can ALL be ourselves.
