VACANCY SUMMARY

This is an exciting, 2 years and 4 months opportunity for a Postdoctoral researcher to work on, and influence, a research programme funded through a prestigious HRB-ILP scheme to Dr Radka Fahey (Saldova) on ‘The role of protein glycosylation in the pathogenesis of endometriosis and association with microbiome’. The role will help to investigate the glycome of body fluids and tissues associated with endometriosis and link them to microbiome present. The position offers opportunity for multidisciplinary translational research and links with other national universities as well as national and international clinics and patients.

Responsibilities:

ROLE PURPOSE

The main focus of the work for PDR1 is to study the ‘The role of protein glycosylation in the pathogenesis of endometriosis and association with microbiome’ funded by HRB-ILP scheme. The central focus of this fully funded 2 years and 4 months position (fixed term 1/1/2025-30/04/2027) will be to define endometriosis-associated N- and O-glycans from all glycoproteins and IgG from circulating blood, uterine fluid and tissues from endometrial lesions and eutopic endometrium, investigate the hormone effect on glycosylation in control study and assist in data integration with microbiome and glycan-binding evaluation. This is collaborative translational research project led by UCD/NIBRT GlycoScience Group, in collaboration with the APC Microbiome Institute, University College Cork (UCC), University of Galway (NUIG) and RCSI Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Additionally, samples from several research clinical institutes (Merrion Fertility Clinic (MFC), Woman’s Clinic of Tartu University Hospital, Estonia and Medical University of Warsaw and OVIklinika Infertility Center, Poland) are included. PPI collaborators, Endometriosis Association of Ireland and individual patients will be involved in patient and public discussions with us to enable patient input to our project and wide communication of the project results.
The successful candidate will be based at NIBRT Limited facility Fosters Avenue, Mount Merrion, Co. Dublin working within the NIBRT GlycoScience Group, but will be required to travel for collaborative meetings and also to national/international conferences and meetings. They will be under the supervision of Dr Radka Fahey (Saldova) (Principal Investigator- PI and line manager).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The key responsibilities of the job include:

  • Managing and conducting this specific project under the leadership of the PI;
  • Disseminating the outcomes of this research at project meetings, through written reports and through publication in peer-reviewed academic journals of international standing;
  • Assisting in the further development of the research programme and in seeking and pursuing appropriate external funding;
  • Liaising with all project partners’ and relevant industries where necessary;
  • Preparing and presenting progress reports and research findings to colleagues for review purposes;
  • Participating fully in the wider research and scholarly activities of the group within the remit and restrictions of the appointed position
  • Engaging in appropriate training and professional development opportunities as determined by the PI;
  • Provide training support and advice to graduate, postdoctoral scientists, technicians and other staff at NIBRT as out- lined by, and agreed with, the PI.
  • Be committed to your own personal career development, including continually updating knowledge and understanding in fields related to the research area.
  • Carrying out any other duties within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job as requested by the line manager;
  • Comply with all NIBRT policies and regulations, including those in relation to Research Ethics and Health and Safety.
