The Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C2DH) is a research centre for the study, analysis and public dissemination of contemporary history of Luxembourg and Europe with a particular focus on digital methods and tools for doing innovative historical research. It serves as a catalyst for innovative and creative scholarship and new forms of public dissemination and societal engagement with history. The Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History is looking to hire one postdoctoral researcher in public history. The researcher will be part of the Public History and Outreach (PHO) group (https://www.uni.lu/c2dh-en/research-groups/public-history/).

Focusing on the production of history with a public perspective, public history has developed as one of the most dynamic international fields of the historical discipline. The Public History and Outreach group’s values focus on:

  • Engagement with diverse publics
  • Inclusive and collaborative projects with a variety of institutional (museums, archives) and community partners
  • Open and transparent research processes

We are developing and using interactive media to produce, share, and discuss historical research with the public (https://www.uni.lu/c2dh-en/research-groups/public-history/research/).

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to and support the research projects and initiatives of the PHO team
  • Develop their own public history research project(s)
  • Develop and engage in a methodology for assessing the impact of research
  • Contribute to the organisation of public history events (conferences, workshops, outreach)
  • Contribute to the management of the C²DH crowdsourcing platform Historesch Gesinn https://www.c2dh.uni.lu/projects/historesch-gesinn
  • Help to further develop the international research network of the PHO team
  • Teach (co-teaching allowed) 2 courses per year (Bachelor or Master levels)
