Description:

The Oxford Internet Institute—founded in 2001—is a multidisciplinary research and teaching department of the University of Oxford, dedicated to the social science of the Internet.
We have an exciting opportunity to join the Seeing Migration Narratives project at the Oxford Internet Institute, University of Oxford.
This is a full-time, fixed-term role, starting immediately. You will be based in Oxford but there may be the opportunity for occasional remote working.
We are seeking an outstanding candidate to work with Prof. Scott Hale, Dr Adam Mahdi, Dr Luc Rocher, Mr Robert McNeil and Dr Madeleine Sumption on a project entitled, Seeing migration narratives: Enhancing decision making through visualisation of policy debates for civil society and the media.
The post holder will join a team with expertise spanning Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Migration Studies, and Media Studies. The team has published in top venues including EMNLP, ACL, Nature Machine Intelligence, ACM FAccT, and NeurIPs. Members of the team also regularly provides analysis for some of the world’s leading media outlets, including the New York Times, The Economist, The BBC, The Financial Times, and The Guardian. The project includes fund for conference attendance and other career development opportunities.
You will be expected to work with the project team and nonprofit practitioner stakeholders to author academic publications, design and implement a data collection and processing pipeline, and create an interactive web application.
You will be working at the Oxford Internet Institute, a multidisciplinary department of the University of Oxford, and collaborate closely with the Centre on Migration, Policy and Society (COMPAS) in the University.
You will have strong experience in Python with expertise in NLP and/or LLMs. Your ability to liaise with relevant stakeholders, your excellent communication skills, and your ability to effectively manage your time will allow you to thrive in our ambitious team.
