We currently have an opening for a Power Quality Mechanical Engineering Designer L3, come grow with us!
Reporting to the Principal Engineer, PQ, the Power Quality Mechanical Engineering Designer L3 purpose is designing and addressing the mechanical requirements for inductors and transformers and ensuring reliable performance, safety, and longevity. This process involves applying the knowledge of electromagnetic theory and principles as they relate to inductor/transformer design as well as thermal analysis and management in electrical systems.

DO YOU QUALIFY? WE ARE SEEKING:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 6-9 years of experience in a similar role
  • Experience with finite element analysis (FEA), thermal analysis and management.
  • Knowledge of electromagnetic theory and principles as they relate to inductor and transformer design.
  • Knowledge of power electronics, especially Wide Bandgap Semiconductors (SiC/GaN) for power converters/inverters, is an asset.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with electrical engineers and manufacturing teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and documentation abilities.

Responsibilities:

  • The high and medium complexity design/development of PQ products and medium frequency inductors and transformers
  • Formulate the mechanical design of inductors and transformers according to specified requirements for various applications including renewable energy systems, electric vehicle charging, and industrial power supplies.
  • Ensure the reliable performance, safety, and longevity of the developed products in terms of physical dimensions, structural integrity, cooling system, insulation system, mounting and installation, protection and enclosure, terminal arrangement, transportation considerations, noise reduction, maintenance accessibility, safety standards compliance, Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and environmental considerations.
  • Perform electromagnetic and thermal calculations to ensure designs meet functional and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with the electrical engineering team to optimize inductor/transformer design for performance and efficiency.
  • Utilize CAD/SOLIDWORKS, or equivalent software, to create detailed design schematics and 3D models for prototype fabrication.
  • Conduct material selection and specify components that meet design criteria while considering cost-efficiency and availability.
  • Prepare comprehensive documentation including design files, specifications, and test reports.
  • Support Sales, Marketing, Product Management and Field Service with both existing and new products.
  • Support manufacturing teams during the production process
