JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

At Avio Aero, a GE Aerospace Company, we’ve been reimagining the power of flight for more than 100 years. We are specialized in the design, production and maintenance of components and systems for both the civil and military aviation.
Avio Aero is reinforcing the focus to excellence in aeronautical mechanical transmissions (i.e. Helicopter Rotor Drive System, Power Gearboxes and Accessory drivetrain) offering distinctive solutions to Third Party Customers and to GE engines.
In this spirit, we are looking for a Mechanical Transmission System expert to support the whole engineering organization while being accountable for specific tasks assigned within the Third Parties NPI (New Product Introduction) section.
In this role he/she provides technical leadership to young engineers, support the people leader in distributing the workload among the team and take full responsibility of developing new technologies (e.g. TRL, MRL, etc.) as well as consolidating lessons learned from product development.

The Staff Engineer utilizes experience and expertise to solve complex problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and have the ability to affect short-term and long-term Company goals. He/she will:

  • Contribute to the design definition within the NPI process from concept design to product detailed definition, protypes manufacturing/procurement, testing and certification.
  • Provide and strengthen technical knowledge expertise in complex aeronautical gearbox rotating components (e.g. bearings, gears, forgings, etc.) with a special focus on shafts on power and accessories applications.
  • Design sub-system and components identifying alternatives, agreeing upon design CTQs, scoring and down-selecting optimal solution to achieve product performance/cost/weight.
  • Discuss with the Customer supporting System Engineers in product definition (e.g. static structures design trade studies, risk assessment).
  • Capture system requirements and support the System Engineer in flowing down system requirements to rotating components definition (including certification strategy, design Specification release,..).
  • Support Sub-Section manager in coordinating design activities (internal and external) such as system/product definition, defining scope of work, technical specifications and providing technical assessment of team capabilities with a functional coordination and leadership to the assigned resources.
  • As a proven expert in the discipline he might extend his contribution to adjacent product life phases (Advanced Technology Organization and Service).
  • Provide technical leadership in Design Reviews, contributing in substantiating and endorsing the proposed design solutions. For other engineering section he will act as a non-advocate reviewer ensuring full compliance of the proposed design solution to Design Practices and Lessons Learned.
  • Remain cognizant of State Of The Art in area of expertise, identify and recommend where improvements in knowledge of the specific discipline or technical trainings are needed, contributing in enhancing technical excellence within all design organizations.
  • Mentor to young engineers and support the organization in identifying key technical talents to develop within the Controlled Title Holder (CTH) organization

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Master of Science in Mechanical/Aeronautical Engineering from an accredited University.
  • Proven technical knowledge in power gearboxes manufacturing processes.
  • Proven expertise in shafts and gearshafts design.
  • Proven experience in complex mechanical system, acquired in the sector of power gearboxes systems and/or components.
  • Knowledge of gearbox technical requirements, design process and solutions, technologies.
  • Clear thinking and diligent approach.
  • Proven Experience with CAD tools (e.g. Unigraphics NX), CAE tools (e.g. Nastran, Ansys).
  • Good leadership in fuctional management of small teams.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Curiosity and passion for mechanic design.
  • Proven Gear Design and Analysis tools knowledge.
  • Strong oral and written english kills.
  • Work Visa, in accordance with local regulation, is required
