Description:
JOB SUMMARY:
The Pre/Post Laboratory Lead (PPLL), following the scope of practice as set by the CSMLS and/or MLPAO is responsible for the procurement and document processing for all clinical laboratory specimens according to laboratory policies and procedures for all pre and post analytical areas. The PPLL is responsible for oversight of all Accreditation requirements for sample procurement processes, Point of Care programs, Laboratory Safety, Incident reporting and all Quality Improvement Initiatives. The PPLL will work collaboratively with other professionals and all members of the interdisciplinary health care team at Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre (SLMHC) to support and enhance the services of the laboratory department and ensure the provision of safe, wholistic, patient centered care to our clients.
Qualifications/Experience:
- Licensed MLA/T or MLT with MLPAO, CSMLS or CMLTO.
- Internal Auditing course preferred.
- Quality Assurance Certificate preferred.
- Experience conducting Accreditation inspections and internal audits.
- Developing Standard Operating Procedures.
- This position requires a high degree of judgment, excellent communication and accuracy of work.
- Minimum of 5 years’ MLA/T experience required.
- Minimum of 2 years’ MLT experience required.
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
- Ability to work well independently.
- Knowledge and sensitivity to First Nations language and culture an asset.
- Experience working in a case management model of care an asset.
- Ability to speak Ojibway/Oji-Cree/Cree an asset.
Responsibilities:
- Assuring that all Accreditation Standards are met for all respective areas.
- Ensuring equipment is functioning properly
- Review, perform and/or delegate validation protocols for the respective areas.
- Responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of the Quality Management System.
- Ensures timely scheduling, testing and reporting of laboratory investigations.
- Ensures testing, quality control procedures, and records meet the requirements of accrediting and licensing agencies.
- Ensures all department/services make optimal use of available resources.
- Guides the technical and clerical staff of the various departments.
- Adhere to Patient and Occupational Health & Safety responsibilities.
- Performs all duties as may be assigned.
- Participates in the equipment acquisition process, with input as appropriate from Laboratory Manager, medical and technical staff, all Laboratory equipment.
- Responsible for the documentation of all proficiency testing for Quality Improvement Initiatives.
- Responsible for the development and maintenance of policy and procedure manuals.
- Ensures safety standards meet the requirements of regulatory bodies.
- Makes provision for the repair and on-going maintenance of all equipment.
- Repairs laboratory equipment.
- Selects, supervises training, evaluates, mentors personnel and ensures staff competency meets Accreditation requirements.
- Consults with Laboratory Medical Director and pathologists on all pertinent matters.
- Deals with concerns and demands of Medical Staff in consultation with Laboratory Medical Director and Laboratory manager.
- Supports infection control activities in the hospital.
- Ensures the preparation of and analyzes monthly statistics.
- Helps with product procurement and inventory management in the absence of the Laboratory Manager.
- Responsible for attending Laboratory Committee Meetings.
- Responsible for Scheduling during the managers absence.
