WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
We are looking for someone with the following experience, qualifications and /or skillsets:
The successful candidate will need to be flexible, have good organisational and interpersonal skills with an exemplary work ethic, drive, and attention to detail. The position reports to the Preschool Head and works in collaboration with the academic staff.
Commitment to the school’s ethos, values and vision are essential. This position is a full time, permanent position starting in January 2025. Curro Hillcrest Preschool has a strong Christian foundation, and the successful candidate must be willing to promote and support this foundation.
Qualifications and Requirements: Diploma in Early Childhood Development or a Degree or Diploma in Foundation Phase Education, Matric Certificate, Active SACE registration.
Skills and Experience: At least 2 years’ experience in ECD, good computer skills, excellent knowledge and understanding of child development and curriculum for children 2 to 6 years old.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for the following:
- Planning: Review year and term plans received from the Head of Preschool to create lesson plans for the age group. Create detailed weekly and daily lesson plans around themes and do preparation accordingly. Implement new works schemes as required by CURRO. Create and follow detailed daily programmes that cover all aspects of the child from a holistic perspective.
- Assessment: Determine the outcomes required and plan and record assessments on a daily and weekly basis. Record daily observations and assessments. Complete formal written reports for parents twice per year as required.
- Communication: Provide frequent feedback to parents both informally and formally, about the progress of their child. Parents interviews will be done in Term 1 and term 3 for all parents and minutes of these must be recorded. Identify learner problems early and liaise accordingly with parents and therapists. Establish good interpersonal relationships and open communication with learners, parents and colleagues. Provide weekly communication to your class group regarding calendar updates, curriculum matters and reminders.
- Classroom Management: Create and maintain a stimulating, inviting and creative space to induce learning and exploration for the children in your class. Ensure that the classroom and activities are tidied and set up the day before to ensure smooth and efficient classroom management.
- Discipline: Ensure that discipline is in line with the school’s discipline policy. Maintain good boundaries, routines and discipline in your class as well as with any other children that you come into contact with during your duties. Report any discipline issues to the Head of the Preschool as well as the child’s parents.
- Record Keeping: Provide records to the Preschool Head of assessments, observations, lesson plans, accident / incident reports, minutes of meetings and interviews when required.
- Mentoring: Managing and mentoring of the assistant or intern in your class.
- Meetings and Functions: Attending,planning, setting up and tidying up of all school functions and events during school hours and after school hours. Attendance of weekly staff meetings.
The successful candidate is required to undertake any other reasonable tasks that the Head of the Preschool determines. Whilst every effort has been made to explain the main duties and responsibilities of the post, each individual responsibility undertaken may not be identified.
